Gold-plated Pensions

The populist term invariably used to describe pensions for Members of Parliament – and, increasingly, public sector pensions in general. It is notable that the term persists despite several major efforts to tighten MPs pensions through the last two decades. If MPs pensions were indeed once “golden”, they boast a much more base metal these days. However, in the more resentful strains of populism, the “gold” label still glistens brightly.
